چکیده

action sets thus comprise multiple stimulusaction and (stimulus)-action-outcome associations, which are learned and continuously adjusted online for maximizing rewards. Computational modeling suggest that stimulus-action and (stimulus)-action-outcome associations are learned and adjusted through reinforcement and statistical learning respectively [33 ,34], while abstract action sets emerge through probabilistic clustering processes [29]. Collectively, these flexible representations invoked together for driving action selection while the same external situation perpetuates, constitute a consistent behavioral strategy also referred to as a task set (Figure 1). Task sets and adaptive behavior Task sets are critical executive units for efficient adaptive behavior in everyday environments featuring external situations that often change and may reoccur periodically Current Opinion in Behavioral Sciences 2015, 1:101–106 102 Cognitive neuroscience

Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation of Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex in Patients with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder to Improve Decision Making and Reduce Obsession Symptoms

Objective: Recent studies on treating obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) have investigated noninvasive brain stimulation techniques such as transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) to improve patients’ impaired emotion and cognition. However, such experiments have yielded mixed results, especially with respect to cognition. This study aimed to investigate whethe...

Computational modeling of dynamic decision making using connectionist networks

In this research connectionist modeling of decision making has been presented. Important areas for decision making in the brain are thalamus, prefrontal cortex and Amygdala. Connectionist modeling with 3 parts representative for these 3 areas is made based the result of Iowa Gambling Task. In many researches Iowa Gambling Task is used to study emotional decision making. In these kind of decisio...

Benefit of the doubt: a new view of the role of the prefrontal cortex in executive functioning and decision making

The False Tagging Theory (FTT) is a neuroanatomical model of belief and doubt processes that proposes a single, unique function for the prefrontal cortex. Here, we review evidence pertaining to the FTT, the implications of the FTT regarding fractionation of the prefrontal cortex, and the potential benefits of the FTT for new neuroanatomical conceptualizations of executive functions. The FTT pro...

An evolutionary computational theory of prefrontal executive function in decision-making

The prefrontal cortex subserves executive control and decision-making, that is, the coordination and selection of thoughts and actions in the service of adaptive behaviour. We present here a computational theory describing the evolution of the prefrontal cortex from rodents to humans as gradually adding new inferential Bayesian capabilities for dealing with a computationally intractable decisio...

Prefrontal Contribution to Decision-Making under Free-Choice Conditions

Executive function is thought to be the coordinated operation of multiple neural processes and allows to accomplish a current goal flexibly. The most important function of the prefrontal cortex is the executive function. Among a variety of executive functions in which the prefrontal cortex participates, decision-making is one of the most important. Although the prefrontal contribution to decisi...

The Causal Role of Right Frontopolar Cortex in Moral Judgment, Negative Emotion Induction, and Executive Control

Introduction: Converging evidence suggests that both emotional and cognitive processes are critically involved in moral judgment, and may be mediated by discrete parts of the prefrontal cortex. The current study aimed at investigating the mediatory effect of right Frontopolar Cortex (rFPC) on the way that emotions affect moral judgments.  Methods: Six adult patients affected by rFPC and 10 hea...
